Four Safety Tips For Beginning Models
Being a model has its pros, but it also has its cons and one of those cons is crazies who become too obsessed with you or fake photographers/people who want to take advantage of you. You’ll be surprised how many people can actually create fake business cards just so that they can get you back to their place and do who knows what with you! The last thing you want to do is put yourself in harms way, which is why you need to be careful, especially if you’re a beginner to the industry. Here are some safety tips to be aware when first starting out:
- Avoid fake companies
Although you can’t be 100% sure that a company is fake, there are some things that should be a red flag if a company is legit or not. Try to avoid companies that have negative reviews or that don’t have a social media presence. Do your research on a company before you take the job by checking out their website, social media channels and ask around about their reputation.
- Trust your gut
A woman’s instinct is powerful and is almost always right, so trust your gut. If you don’t have a good feeling about a job or person, don’t do it and decline the offer. Use your common sense and don’t be afraid to turn down jobs if you don’t feel right about them. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
- Be cautious of agencies
You never want to pay an agency to sign on since they should be making money from commission from your jobs that they help book you and not money you have to pay up front. But more important, never sign any contracts without reading everything on it first. Ask questions if you don’t understand things. Also never let an agency pressure you into doing something you don’t want to do.
- Be careful of adverts online or in print
You might find a lot of jobs in classified ads or online modeling sites, but be cautious of these ads looking for models. More than likely, they’re a scam. Legitimate agencies utilize their database and an online booking portal such as Popbookings.
